Queen Maud Land, Antarctica and
the dream before us

Trying to secure camp in a gale
on the Sigyn Glacier
Ann pulling her sled up
the Sigyn Glacier and past Ulvetanna,
'The Wolf's Tooth'

In Antarctica, there's no need to hunt
for good campsites. You just stop
when you're tired and make camp
right where you are.
And wherever that is, you are always
just a speck on the horizon.

Hallelujah! Liv has spotted the other coast
and the Transantarctic Mountains
some 100 miles away
January 17, 2001. At the South Pole
for the second time in each of our lives.
The cold can make you feel
a bit desperate. Liv waits
for blood to come back
into her white fingertips.
